Dance is one way to express the inner self. Styles and movement techniques of dance give us a vehicle to get our message out to others, but the transference of the essence and profundity of feelings, which lie in a realm beyond the technical, is more subtle and difficult to achieve. While this video attempts to give the viewer a wealth of creative and movement ideas by blending several dance forms with Middle Eastern dance and the use of props, there is also the hope that something more essential and soulful will subtly be imparted which will affect the viewer and impact his or her own creativity in deeper, more meaningful ways. -- Ayshe

This inspiring video features theater and nightclub performances by Ayshe, New York City dance artist, instructor and choreographer. It is a superb resource for students of dance as well as a spectacular addition to any dance video collection.

Ayshe's creative, bold approach blending Middle Eastern dance (belly dance) with elements of modern dance, ballet, yoga, Indian and African dance results in high-impact, emotionally intense choreographies and improvisations.

Ayshe was the first to introduce the "Wings of Isis" into the bellydance vocabulary. A designer and connoisseur of this spectacular prop, Ayshe performs a number of magnificent "winged" choreographies on this video. If you are interested in "dancing with wings," you must have this recording.

It Is not only the wings that Ayshe has mastered: She is the unchallenged Queen of Props, seamlessly and masterfully incorporating a wide variety of very challenging dance props into her work. Ayshe blends her Greek and American heritage to create a form of dance that is both exotic and unusual. She has trained extensively in classical ballet, modern dance, yoga, and a variety of ethnic dance forms, focusing on Middle Eastern dance, ancient pharaonic dance, and Indian dance. She holds a B.A. in Human Movement, Archaeology, and Middle Eastern Studies from New York City's Hunter College.

She has performed extensively throughout the New York area in countless cultural and commercial settings, including Jehan's recent off-Broadway production of Goddessdance. She also teaches bellydance for the Temple of Jehan at "Steps on Broadway," as well as designs and produces beautiful wings, like the ones seen on this video.
